November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

This November there is a movement to raise awareness for diabetes, a disease that affects 24 million Americans. It is important to shine a spotlight on this serious disease that can lead to potentially life-threatening complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, and amputations. Diabetes is a serious epidemic in our country.

Nearly 24 million Americans have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. In addition, another 57 million people have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. If the upward trend doesn’t change, one in three Americans will develop diabetes in his or her lifetime.
