This blog is dedicated to all those who have faced (as I did) and will face the horribly difficult decision of long term care for an elderly or disabled loved one.

It is a heart wrenching time as you see the person you have always known slip away. Which day should you make that unthinkable decision, to have him or her taken from you and placed in a “home.”

Damn it, they have a HOME. We are actually talking about incarceration … for the crime of getting old or disabled.

But there is really rarely any other choice. Each day they become a greater threat, to themselves, and sometimes to those around them.

And what of your other family members? They have wants and needs too. Many a marriage has broken under the unremitting pressure and guilt of this one decision: When is it time to go … and let go?
